Case in point: yesterday lovebirds Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas quietly made their relationship official. The pair who met on the set of director Adrian Lyne’s forthcoming psychological thriller, Deep Water, have kept mum about dating rumors for weeks but appeared to confirm things in the real world and on social media.
On Instagram, that meant Affleck was sliding into the comments on de Armas’s latest post to point out that he snapped the photos of her looking blissful on the beach. If that wasn’t enough of a hint, they later took to the streets of Los Angeles in matching outfits during a quick Starbucks run. With Affleck in a slate blazer, khakis, and sneakers and de Armas wearing a coordinated grey overcoat with black leggings and Alexander Wang’s Bulgari Serpenti bag, they looked the part of low-key power couple. Joined by de Armas’s Maltese puppy, Elvis, as they snagged their lattes, they seemed blissful.
The drama surrounding celebrity relationships is the least important thing happening in the world right now, but the sight of new love always provides a jolt of cheer. Freshly caffeinated, the couple—and their adorable dog—provided a momentary distraction. It will be a long while before we return to the days when every Hollywood relationship came with a feisty fanbase and its own portmanteau, but the sight of a spring romance still feels sweet.
