Manolos on a Plane? Rihanna Shows How It’s Done

Admit it, airport style is unrealistic. Though celebrities are often captured strolling through baggage claim looking like they’re about to hit the red carpet, it’s hardly practical. Real jet setters understand the importance of comfort and this morning at JFK Airport Rihanna showed precisely how it’s done—in style. In New York for the launch of her Fenty pop up in Soho, the music and fashion mogul arrived wearing a sweatsuit from Palace Skateboards and a Yankees cap, a combo that would typically be considered casual. Of course, Rihanna always finds a way to elevate an outfit. In this case, she added Manolo Blahnik’s silver Spuriasli slingbacks, an oversized Dior book bag tote, and Balenciaga’s crystal drop earrings.

Sweats and heels have become one of Rihanna’s favorite pairings, and over the years she’s worn the combo in a variety of ways. In 2017 she paired Burberry’s python trench with a pink Vetements tracksuit and Tom Ford stilettos while enjoying a girls night out in New York. Her take on the look involved a pastel set from The Elder Statesman and Blahnik’s color-blocked Bipunta pumps way back in 2016, while this past February it was Virgil Abloh’s Off-White cargo sweats and marabou sandals by Olgana Paris.

When it comes to style, Rihanna rarely repeats herself, but she’s remained loyal to this simple yet effective trend. Her latest variation on the look is guaranteed to inspire copycats, whether they’re flying coach or heading from private jet to chauffeured car.
