Tilda Swinton Kicks Off the Venice Film Festival in Head-to-Toe Chanel

The annual Venice Film Festival is now officially underway, and this year’s event is taking a Covid-safe approach with mandatory masks, temperature checks, and socially-distanced screenings. It’s one of the only major film festivals that’s taking place physically this season, and it will look nothing like it has in past years. For one, the public is barred from attending the red carpet. What’s more, many Hollywood stars will be absent on it this time around. One of the first celebrities to touch down in Italy for the festival, however, is Tilda Swinton. This week, the actor is receiving the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award; she’s also debuting her new short film, La Vox Humana, with Pedro Almodóvar.

Even before making her official appearance, Swinton arrived at the Venice airport in a look that served up the glamorous fashion fun long associated with the festival’s red carpet. Swinton emerged from her flight dressed in head-to-toe Chanel, basically the chicest travel look one can sport. She wore a brown trench coat with a gold chain belt tied around the waist. Her outerwear was also perfectly coordinated to her quilted Chanel bag, in the same neutral shade. Under the long silhouette of her coat, a pair of statement heels was peeking out, namely red and black vinyl pumps, also bearing the house’s signature interlocking double C logo. (Of course, Swinton’s version of a travel shoe is a fetish-inspired boot.) Finishing off her ensemble with a pair of giant shades, the star brought serious A-list energy to Venice; a fashion moment that’s going to be hard to top.
