Chloe x Halle Shine at the 2020 VMAs Pre-Show

Strobe lights? Check. Gorgeous all-metallic looks? Check.

  • Chloe x Halle stunned at the 2020 VMAs pre-show while performing “Ungodly Hour.”
  • The sisters are also nominated for awards at this year’s ceremony, including Best R&B Video and Best Quarantine Performance.

Chloe x Halle continue to redefine the concept of the quarantine performance. In the promotion circuit for their album Ungodly Hour this summer, the sister duo have turned a tennis court into their stage and made us see double; and now, for the 2020 Video Music Awards, they pulled out the metallic body suits and strobe lights for another jaw-dropping set.

The sister duo, respectively aged 20 and 22, performed the bouncy title track of their new LP for the VMA pre-show with a full-on light show. The set was made even more dynamic by their reflective fits, complete with chrome-colored leotards by Sho Kinoshi, knee-high-boots by Longchamp and United Nude, arm coverings, hair accessories by Laurel DeWitt, and silver jewelry by Laurel DeWitt and Nina Berenato. You can thank their stylist, Zerina Akers, for the mirror-like ensembles.

Chloe x Halle’s recent, more grown-up looks reflect the more mature theme of their album. “We now officially feel like we’re coming into our own as young women,” HalleĀ previously told BAZAAR.com. “I’m 20, my sister is 22, so we wanted to reflect that we are young women and be in the looks that we have for this album. That’s why there was latex.”

The singer added that they “did not really have any fear” with introducing their new style. “Because honestly, this all feels like such a natural transition for us. It’s just like us turning into butterflies. We’re going through these things, the experiences are actually happening to us.”

In addition to ringing in the ceremony, Chloe x Halle are nominees at this year’s VMAs, as they’re in the running for awards like Best Quarantine Performance and Best R&B Video. If this is just the pre-show, they’ve set the bar high for the performers for the actual ceremony.
