In an unprecedented health crisis like the one the new coronavirus has brought, we’re considering so many options in terms of how to react or how best to help.
Celebrities have been sharing information on social media about the disease, including, in a couple of high-profile cases, their own experience with COVID-19: Tom Hanks and Idris Elba both recently explained that they had tested positive and cautioned fans to stay calm. Now, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have pledged $1 million to food banks in the U.S. and Canada, which are currently overwhelmed with demand.
Reynolds called COVID-19 “an asshole” in a tweet, in which he also announced his and Lively’s donation to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada, urging readers to “take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection.”
Reynolds also cheekily provided a fake number for Hugh Jackman in his tweet, in case you were worried that the situation had taken a toll on his sense of humor. Lively got in on the action as well with her own Instagram post:
After reminding readers to “remember the lonely and isolated,” and FaceTime, Skype, and make videos for one another, Lively took the opportunity to needle her husband, writing, “Now can someone please tell Ryan that ’emotional distancing’ from his mother in law is not a thing. Nothing can save him ☺️ “. Yet another classic spouse burn, but at least this one comes attached to a generous display of charitable giving at a time when others are in need.
