The Goldfinch is one of the most anticipated book-to-film adaptations of the year—and now we’ve got a first look at the official trailer, which was released today. Releasing in September, the movie features a star-studded cast including Nicole Kidman, Stranger Things’s Finn Wolfhard, Sarah Paulson, Ansel Elgort, and more, and is directed by Brooklyn’s John Crowley.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by American author Donna Tartt, the plot follows a boy in New York City who is taken in by a wealthy Upper East Side family after his mother is killed in a bombing attack at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. And based on the trailer, we already smell the Oscar noms: Will it be for the cinematography, emotional storyline and writing, or, well, Kidman (hello)? The actress’s wigs and uptown suits deserve an Academy Award alone. Get the tissues ready—this one looks like a tear-jerker.
Below, watch the first teaser trailer.
