Lady Gaga took a break from filming House of Gucci in Italy for Oscar night.
Though the superstar didn’t attend the ceremony in person, she made a brief appearance during a virtual watch party hosted by the Elton John AIDS Foundation last night. She dressed in a leather jacket and wore big brunette curls and oversized sunglasses—as if she were still in costume for the fashionable upcoming drama. This content is imported from Twitter. Gaga shared a heartwarming message with viewers in a prerecorded video. “This last year has taken a huge toll on the mental health of people all over the world,” she said, per Variety. “We have all had those days, weeks or longer where we might look okay from the outside, but inside is a different story altogether.
“Our mental health is fundamental to our physical health and this is especially true for young people fighting HIV. It’s tragic to think a quarter of adolescents living with HIV don’t have access to the medical care they need because of depression or feeling overwhelmed. The reality is we won’t end the AIDS crisis unless we care for both mental and physical health.”
Gaga and John are longtime friends and collaborators, having recently teamed up on the pop star’s Chromatica track “Sine from Above.” At the music legend’s annual Oscar party, Gaga joined other big names like Dua Lipa, who performed at the event, as well as Cynthia Erivo, Elizabeth Hurley, and even Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Gaga won her first Oscar at the 2019 ceremony, earning the Best Original Song trophy for her power ballad, “Shallow,” made famous in A Star Is Born. She recently told that she celebrated the win with Dom Pérignon champagne—with which she now has a creative partnership—backstage.
“We had a huge toast of Dom backstage at the Oscars with my cowriters Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt, my family and friends who were there, and my team,” Gaga reminisced to us. “It’s a moment I’ll never forget.”
With House of Gucci set to release this year, perhaps there’s a chance Gaga will return to the Oscars as a nominee soon.
