The Glee star is confirmed dead at 33 years old.
- Actress Naya Rivera’s body has been found after five days of searching following her disappearance at Lake Piru near Los Angeles, California.
- Authorities found the actress’s body at the lake site early Monday morning and confirmed the recovered individual was indeed the Glee actress around 5 p.m. ET.
- Rivera is believed to have died by accidentally drowning while out swimming with her four-year-old son last week.
The body of actress Naya Rivera, best known and adored for her role as Santana Lopez on the beloved television show Glee, was found today, five days after her initial disappearance at Lake Piru in California. She was 33 years old.
Authorities announced that a body was being recovered at the lake where Rivera was last seen and confirmed later in a press conference that the found individual was indeed the actress. Rivera’s loved ones including her mother, father, and ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey, were all seen at Lake Piru yesterday as dive teams continued to search for Rivera.
“Today our search teams have recovered a body in the lake. Based on the location where the body was found, physical characteristics of the body, clothing found on the body, and the physical condition of the body, as well as the absence of any other persons reported missing in the area, we are confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera,” said Ventura County Sherrif Bill Ayub during the press briefing. “As you can imagine, it’s been an extremely difficult time for her family throughout this ordeal. As fathers, mothers, sons and daughters, our hearts are with them and we share in their grief for Naya’s loss.”
Last week, Rivera was declared missing after rental boat staffers found her four-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, alone on a rented pontoon, past the three-hour rental return time. Josey was found unharmed and wearing a life vest on the boat, with an adult vest, assumed to have been Rivera’s, also on board.
Per People, Rivera’s son has reportedly been “in good health” in the days following the traumatic experience of his mother’s disappearance.
Rivera was a mainstay character on the Ryan Murphy–helmed Glee, playing the fan favorite Santana until the show’s sixth and final season wrapped in 2015.
