Yolanda Hadid Returns to the Runway at Off-White

When it comes to models of the moment, no one can compete with Bella and Gigi Hadid. The supermodel sisters have dominated the fall 2020 season on and off the runways—but this evening at Off-White, they got a run for their money when their mom, Yolanda, stepped out in Virgil Abloh’s latest designs. As the 15th look out in the show (opened by none other than her daughter Bella), Yolanda was a thrilling surprise for the audience courtesy of Abloh and casting director Liz Goldson. In a white blazer covered with graffiti, cigarette pants, and sunglasses, she delivered Parisian chic with a streetwise edge—precisely what you’d expect from one of Abloh’s muses.

Of course, Yolanda has plenty of experience in the modeling world. Discovered at 14 when Dutch designer Frans Molenaar asked her to replace a model in one of his collections, Yolanda was handpicked by the late Eileen Ford to sign to her agency. Then known as Yolanda van den Herik, she became a familiar face during Paris and Milan fashion weeks of the ’80s and ’90s. Appearances in the pages of French and German Vogue helped to bolster her career, leading to more than a decade of work in front of the camera. Though fashion never brought her the household-name status of her daughters, she was more than prepared to revisit the runway at tonight’s show.

At 56, Yolanda is now a best-selling author, an ex-Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member, and an occasional TV host, but her high-fashion return proves that modeling talent never truly goes away. Whether her appearance at Off-White marks the beginning of a new chapter in Yolanda’s career remains to be seen, but for now everyone’s favorite model momager is back in the spotlight in a big way.
