Queen Elizabeth II’s grandchildren are honoring her memory.
Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Lady Louise Windsor, and James, Viscount Severn, are standing vigil beside the late monarch’s coffin in Westminster Hall today. The ceremony, which was not attended by any of the grandchildren’s spouses, lasted for 15 minutes.
The Prince of Wales stood at the head of coffin while the Duke of Sussex stood at the foot; at the request of King Charles III, both wore their military uniforms. The rest of the grandchildren attended wearing all-black formal clothes, representing the period of royal mourning that the king had declared last week.
The day prior, the queen’s children—Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Prince Andrew—also held vigil at Westminster Hall. “The grandchildren, at the King’s invitation, are very keen to pay their respects—just as their parents are doing the evening before,” a spokesman said.
