Look back at the model and producer’s whirlwind four-year romance.
As with many good things, the romance between Emily Ratajkowski and Sebastian Bear-McClard has regrettably come to an end. Still, the soon-to-be-divorcés have shared an unmatched romantic history spanning the course of four years.
The model and Uncut Gems producer epitomized whirlwind romance, having made the big step to wed after just several days of dating back in 2018. The two have since become parents together, while blessing red-carpet events and the New York City streets with their infectious PDA.
During their time together, the model was candid and transparent about her love for Bear-McClard in essays and interviews, making clear her devotion to their relationship and family. But in late July, news broke that Bear-McClard has allegedly been cheating on Ratajkowski—and per additional sources, the My Body author has since split from the producer and is planning to divorce him.
Here, we reflect back on the pair’s eventful romance. Read on for their full relationship history below.
February 14, 2018: They publicly debut as a couple.
The pair make their first appearance together as a couple on Valentine’s Day in Los Angeles—packing on the PDA, according to sources.
It remains unconfirmed how exactly the two met, but an Us Weekly insider reports that the two share mutual friends and bonded for several years before embarking on their relationship. “Emily has known Sebastian for years,” the source tells the outlet in March 2018. “They were all in a friend group. … He wasn’t a stranger.”
February 23, 2018: They swiftly tie the knot.
After just nine days of dating, the two exchange vows in a New York City courthouse in a surprise intimate civil ceremony. The model announces the news on her Instagram Stories with a selfie of her with Bear-McClard, writing, “Sooo, I have a surprise, I got married today.”
Ratajkowski spills details about Bear-McClard’s proposal on The Tonight Show in April 2018, telling host Jimmy Fallon that her new husband informally popped the question to her on a date night at Minetta Tavern in New York City—and that she had made her decision on the spot to say yes.
“I thought about it for about 30 seconds,” the model says. “It was a City Hall courthouse wedding. I guess I didn’t know what I always wanted to do, which is maybe why it was so untraditional.”
She continues, “He didn’t have a ring, so I was like, ‘Mmm, nah.’ And then, he took the paper clip that the bill was paid with and made me a ring, which I actually thought was really romantic.”
For sentimentality, she and Bear-McClard also decided to DIY their real wedding rings, with the model saying, “We walked into Chinatown and bought, like, an ounce of gold. And he was like, ‘We’ll melt down the gold to make the rings.'”
She adds, “I just feel like making it yourself, like, how could you be more personal?”
March 3, 2018: They debut on the red carpet.
The two make their first joint red-carpet appearance as a married couple at the 33rd annual Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica.
“Emily looked so in love with her husband. She kept staring at him smiling and was touching his face a lot,” E! News reports. “Emily rested her head on his shoulder and really looked truly happy.”
March 25, 2018: They honeymoon in the Utah desert.
A month after their wedding, the pair enjoys a steamy honeymoon at the luxurious Amangiri Resort in Canyon Point, Utah.
November 7, 2018: Ratajkowski defends her relationship.
Ratajkowski addresses criticisms surrounding the quick progression of her relationship with Bear-McClard on Busy Tonight.
“We knew each other for a long time before, and he likes to joke, ‘Yeah, everyone thinks we got married quickly, but you vetted me for two years,'” she tells host Busy Philipps on her talk show.
February 23, 2019: They celebrate their first wedding anniversary.
The model commemorates her first year of marriage with the producer with sentimental posts on Instagram featuring throwback photos of their civil wedding ceremony and snaps of her special wedding ring.
“One year ago today, we headed down to city hall with some of our closest friends,” she captions one of the tributes. “What a year it’s been. Marrying you has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Happy year ☝️!”
May 11, 2019: They adopt a pet.
The pair officially embark on parenting with their first adopted member of the family: new puppy Colombo. Announcing the news on Instagram with a group selfie, Ratajkowski writes, “Everyone out here having babies (Kim, Megan, Amy) but we got a new special guy ourselves. It’s a boy! Meet Colombo.”
February 8, 2020: They make another red-carpet appearance.
The two grace the carpet again at the 35th Film Independent Spirit Awards, where Uncut Gems—which Bear-McClard produced—is nominated for Best Feature.
October 26, 2020: Ratajkowski announces her pregnancy.
“I dreamed of you for the first time the other night. We were wondering who you will be. One day soon, so very soon, your presence will be real,” she captions another Instagram post featuring a video montage documenting her pregnancy progress.
March 8, 2021: They welcome a baby boy.
Ratajkowski gives birth to her first child and son with Bear-McClard, Sylvester Apollo Bear.
“Sylvester Apollo Bear has joined us earth side,” Ratajkowski captions the Instagram debut of her newborn. “Sly arrived 3/8/21 on the most surreal, beautiful and love-filled morning of my life.”
Later in an essay, Ratajkowski meditates on pregnancy and raising her son outside the box of conventional gender roles.
“When my husband and I tell friends that I’m pregnant, their first question after ‘Congratulations’ is almost always ‘Do you know what you want?'” the model writes. “We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then. Everyone laughs at this. There is a truth to our line, though, one that hints at possibilities that are much more complex than whatever genitalia our child might be born with: the truth that we ultimately have no idea who—rather than what—is growing inside my belly. Who will this person be? What kind of person will we become parents to? How will they change our lives and who we are? This is a wondrous and terrifying concept, one that renders us both helpless and humbled.”
November 9, 2021: Ratajkowski affirms healthy, mutual chemistry with Bear-McClard.
The model reflects on the famous men—namely actors—who have previously pursued her on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, implying the way they’ve differed from her husband.
“It’s a strange thing but famous men who’ve pursued me, I’m always like, ‘Oh, God,'” she says. “Actors [are] a very specific type of dude [and] something about it just doesn’t work for me. I don’t want to feel like a prize in any way. I just want to have a nice relationship where it feels equal.”
October 19, 2021: Ratajkowski dedicates her new memoir to her husband and son.
“To my husband, for showing me how transforming love can be. To Sly, to whom this book is dedicated. While you grew inside of me, I wrote, hoping to become the best version of myself for you,” she writes in My Body.
July 15, 2022: They reportedly call it quits.
Split rumors begin to swirl after Ratajkowski is spotted without her wedding band during a stroll with her son in New York City. A Page Six source later confirms allegations that Bear-McClard has been serially cheating on the model.
“Yeah, he cheated,” the insider says.
July 18, 2022: EmRata seems to confirm the split.
A source close to the pair confirm to People that the model has made the decision to split from the producer following his infidelity allegations. “They split recently. It was Em’s decision. She is doing okay,” the insider reveals. “She is strong and focused on her son. She loves being a mom.”
Though the model does not yet publicly address the breakup, she seems to confirm the news by liking a string of tweets talking about the split and the film producer’s alleged infidelity.
“Can’t believe that little bitch cheated on emrata,” read one tweet that Ratajkowski liked. “Girls, how are we celebrating Emrata’s divorce,” read another, per Page Six. “Emrata finally free from that man just proves that god is actually very real,” a third fan wrote.
