Sophie Turner Tried to Date Matthew Perry Before She Married Joe Jonas

And, yes, she tried to pick him up on the sidewalk.

  • Sophie Turner has revealed that she once tried to hit on Matthew Perry.
  • Explaining a 2016 tweet that referenced the 49-year-old Friends actor, 23-year-old Turner explained that she unsuccessfully attempted to flirt with Perry.
  • Turner, of course, went on to meet and marry Joe Jonas.

Slowly but surely, Sophie Turner is stealing chunks of my heart, and pretty soon she’s going to own the entire damn thing. And her latest story is total proof that she deserves every inch of it.

23-year-old Turner, who married Joe Jonas in Las Vegas in May 2019, took part in an interview with Twitter this week. Titled #BehindtheTweets, Turner explained the stories behind some of her tweets, including one that referenced Matthew Perry way back in 2016.

Turner’s tweet read, “Holy balls. Chanandler Bong himself is rehearsing his play right next to my home.” Unsurprisingly, there’s actually an epic story behind Turner’s tweet inspired by iconic Friends character Chandler Bing.

In the interview, Turner explained, “I would walk around the corner every day to go to my local Budgens, which is a great little supermarket, and I would walk around the corner every day and I would see Matthew Perry smoking a cigarette.”

And it gets better, because Turner revealed that she went so far as to purchase “a lighter from Budgens so that I could walk up to him and offer to light his cigarette.” However, her flirting technique didn’t quite work as “it was already lit, so, that was just embarrassing.”

She also hoped that Perry might react to her Chanandler Bong tweet and said, “I thought he might see this tweet and then, I don’t know, reach out to me, and ask me on a date or something, but he didn’t.”

So there you have it. The epic love story that never was. And as someone with a pretty much lifelong crush on Matthew Perry, I only have the utmost respect for Turner at this point.
